In speaking with Safy Saada, Creative Director, I was told that there’s no underlying story or reasoning for these characters being in XDefiant. There’s no story or narrative on why these agents from each Faction are in XDefiant. But loading into XDefiant now, there’s more structure to it. There was no real guidance on how to play the game or who the characters were. I couldn’t figure out what the game was trying to do or how the game was supposed to feel. We’ve had some hands-on time with the game, which you can read about in our XDefiant gameplay preview. In my opinion, XDefiant really didn’t have a sense of identity when the first closed test opened. If you’re not up to speed, XDefiant is an upcoming free-to-play shooter that sees players go up against each other as various character types based on Ubisoft titles like Splinter Cell, Far Cry and Watch Dogs to name a few. (You can still get in if you’re interested – find out how to get an XDefiant beta code here. It’s also worth noting that Ubisoft is also offering rewards for the full release to those who play the beta, meaning Xbox owners now have less time to earn them. Of course it’s important to stress that, as a beta, technical issues are to be expected but at the time of writing Ubisoft has not declared if it’ll be extending the beta to account for the missed time on Xbox. Xbox servers will still be disabled and show a VICTOR error message.” “We are still working to patch Xbox Series X|S as soon as we can. However, as of the time of writing the Xbox version of the beta is still unplayable. The patch arrived on PlayStation consoles by Sunday evening, as declared on the Twitter account. “However, this patch should provide a much better experience for everyone when deployed!” To make up for the lack of access, Ubisoft has granted all console owners PC access to the beta, so they could still play there if their machine was up to the task. “We know this is disappointing news for console players,” they tweeted. “ Consoles will unfortunately now be unable to access the game until we can bring this patch to consoles as soon as we can. While Ubisoft were able to provide a patch for PC owners, unfortunately for consoles they were at the mercy of the certification process, leaving them unable to play at all for at least a day. On Saturday, the game’s official Twitter account revealed that these issues would require a game client update to fix. While Ubisoft did of course tackle these connection issues as best they could with a series of patches on PC, console players had to wait a little longer.Ī glimpse at the game’s Trello board shows a number of issues the team are working on – with the connection issues being a main priority. The beta launched last week, and is running until the end of this one – but due to connection issues with the game’s servers, many players were finding themselves struggling to get on the beta. Ubisoft’s new free-to-play shooter XDefiant is off to a rocky start with the first few days of its closed beta – with connection issues seeing consoles unable to play for large portions of the weekend.
